Stupid insurance companies
Dec. 5th, 2003 06:42 pmIn april I got a new crown. I need two more, but wanted the first one all done before I got the second. I've been getting bills every month from the dentist, who apparently hasn't been paid yet from MetLife. Today I got A) a letter from metlife telling me they haven't paid yet because they need info telling them how much the primary insurance company paid, and B) a bill from my dentist, telling me that I still owe them over $400.
The primary insurance company didn't pay anything cause they don't cover crowns, and I call MetLife and tell them this, and Met life tells me that they can't pay because they are listed as second, so metlife tells me I have to have the dr resubmit listing metlife as primary. I call the dr and he tells me he can't do that, it would be illegal. He says he can't have his staff spend more time on the issue, and I either have to deal with the insurance company or pay the bill myself. He says he'll give me a copy of what was submitted so I can have the case numbers and all that.
So, when I get the copy of the paperwork I see there is a form from BlueCross saying how they paid nothing since they don't cover crowns. I call metlife back up and tell them I have an "explantion of benifits" that says BC didn't pay anything, and do they have a copy? They tell me yes. I ask them if they have a form telling them how much the primary paid why are they asking me for how much the primary paid. They tell me it is because the dentist didn't include a copy of the x-rays.
Now the form they sent me doesn't ask for x-rays, the form they sent the dr didn't ask for x-rays, but they aren't paying the crown because they didn't get a copy of the x-rays. Well fuckheads, how about *asking* for them.
I think Metlife just doesn't want to pay and thinks that if they jerk me around long enough then I'll pay the crown myself.
Insurance companies will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
