2011. 47 years old. Working in DC as a geeky astronomer. Happily married to [livejournal.com profile] mtnwlf. Two dogs, two birds, three of four rescue's. Have good social network, frets about credit card bills that are way higher than I'd like them to be.

2001. 37 years old. Working in DC as a geeky astronomer. Happily married to [livejournal.com profile] mtnwlf. One dog, one bird. Dog becoming spoiled rotten. Have good social network, little credit card debt since rolled credit card debt into home equity loan when my house with 25 year old roof showed signs of needing a new roof.

1991. 27 years old. Living in Charlottesville trying to get my Ph. D. Project behind schedule. Personality conflicts with boss. Social life non existant. Spare time non existant. If I had the time to think about anything other than the God Damn Thesis (GDT), would have realized I probably qualified as depressed. Started to meet people from a party I saw advertised on usenet. Credit card debt way too high, since on grad student salary I tend to run out of money on the 20th or so of each month.

1981. 17 years old. First part of year living in NJ. Second part of year living in Socorro NM. First half of year spent skating through high school doing minimum amount of work possible to still have a gpa above 3. Not part of in crowd. Mostly avoided getting shoved into locker or other things high school bullies did to the small and unpopular. Second half of year spent in various bits of culture shock (Socorro has no culture), some of which was learning the oh so obvious "everyone in college is smart". First experiance with a computer on a Dec-10. It had half a Megaword of memory. 36 bits. Avoiding having to use a punched card though. Learned very quickly that while most people have trouble with computers, they are easy for me. In 1982 I got access to the Vax, which ran some strange operating system from Berkeley called Unix. Mailed my self a copy of the source code. Didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that. In 1983 first used Ethernet, usenet, and CS-Net.

1971. Unless my math skills have deterioated more than I think they have, I was 7, and in 2nd grade. Don't remember much about that time, except I would rather spend time reading a book than interacting with people. Hiding from people decreased number of times I got beat up. Did not decrease it to zero. Had various household pets, none of which remain in memory enough to remember name. Many cats and dogs though.
