Only very tangentially related, but I kept thinking of you at the opera the other night because of the Valkyries' costumes. (In the sense that you'd properly appreciate them as I did, I don't think you'd look quite as fetching as they did in them. ;) )

What did you think of the production? It got mostly great reviews, but I just couldn't bear to watch it at DAR, Domingo or no Domingo.

I loved it, myself. I heard a lot of grumbling about the set design from other folks there (too modern and industrial-looking, too grey, etc.), but my only real complaint was that I was sitting off to the side and I couldn't get the full effect of it all. There were some images projected on the scrim that were hard to see from where I was sitting. I must say though that DAR itself was absolutely painful; the seats made airline coach seats seem spacious and comfortable. :-P

Yes, DAR is very uncomfortable. I was wondering if they fixed that during renovations. Guess not! We saw the classic production at the Met a few years ago. It was absolutely amazing. You get a lot more bang for your buck at the Met too. They are doing Das Rheingold and Gotterdammerung in the spring, just in case you are a huge Wagner fan.
