Oh dear God. She had a couple liters enema bag and filled it with wine, thinking "well, he wants a wine enema..."

Last I checked, wine taken in the form of an enema was considered to have approximately twice the effect of wine you drink, due to the faster absorption when it is taken as an enema. So if we are talking about at least 3 liters of sherry, or the equivalent of about 6 if he'd just drunk them. I grew up with an alcoholic, but even he limited himself to "only" 2 liters of wine a day, not 6. I'm not too surprised the guy didn't make it!
