Looks like the Bush administration is soft on crime. They aren't going to prosecute
Mark Felt.

I found it rather distasteful how Buchanan et al (including one of the Watergate Burglers!) were running about slamming Felt on the airwaves this week.

Crikey. I find it astonishing that anybody should look at the Nixon administration abuses of power and conclude that helping Watergate come to light was a horrible thing.

I almost wish they would. "Republicans Prosecute 91-year-old Man for Disclosing Nixon Crimes" would be such a great headline!

Actually, I'm sure the Bush administration is glad for yet another thing to distract the world from their own horrendous corruption, duplicity and abuses of power...where's deep throat when we need him?

Boy, wouldn't it have been great if someone named deep throat had leaked the Lewinsky affair?

Heh.

Ah, for the days when a serious scandal involved a blowjob instead of tens of thousands of dead civilians, the American military in a quagmire and disgraced by continually mounting evidence that prisoners of war are tortured, the American government exposed as liars, previously docile if belligerent regimes furiously attempting to acquire nuclear (excuse me, "nucular") weapons as a deterrent against a possible invasion?

I would have expected more parallels to have been drawn between then and now, but perhaps that's why all the Nixon apologists got trotted out to call Felt a traitor rather than a hero.

I also wish there were more understanding of the differences between using anonymous sources to direct or corroborate and using anonymous sources as one's only research. That distinction seems to have been lost of late.
