Liberals didn't like Miers cause they thought she might overturn Roe, conservatives didn't like her cause they thought she wouldn't. Ah, politics.

Honestly, the thing that made me the most uncomfortable about the whole Harriet Miers deal was that Bush apparantly thought he could nominate an inexperienced croney and get her confirmed just because he wanted her to be.

The conspiracy theorist in me, though, wants to think that Miers was a deliberate choice. Bush *knew* he couldn't get her confirmed, but nominating her was a sop. Now he's free to nominate some scary conservative white male. Gah. Who, me, paranoid?

I know I'm being a little silly and paranoid. Or at least I hope so. I just can't imagine anyone genuinely thinking that a croney with no record to speak of and NO judicial experience at all was going to get confirmed. It smells like a setup to me. But you may be right about the "trust me".

And now Bush thinks the answer is to find someone more reliably right wing? ACK!!!!
