Arrived in LA Serena Chile after travelling about 24 hours. Ugh. It didn't help that 1) the travel agent didn't leave enough time after arrival in Santiago and the plane to La Serena for me to pass customs. By the time I was done it was 9:30 and the plane was supposed to leave at 10, and they had to put me on the 11am plane, It also didn't help that 2) the people in Dulles told me my baggage was checked all the way through to La Serena, and no, it isn't, I have to manually pass it through customs. The plane finally took off at about 12:30, but due to thunderstorms in La Serena the plane couldn't land and had to return to Santiago. *sigh* I finally got here safe and sound and jetlagged. Now to wait for an astronomer I know to finish a meeting and we're getting some dinner. Chile seems very attractive, and the taxi ride from the airport was about a buck fifty, assuming I'm doing the conversion correctly. I feel like I'm going to pull a Frazier, from that episode of Cheers where Frazier intends to tip someone 5 bucks but tips him 50 since he blew the conversion and then for the rest of the episode he was followed by a flock of waitors/bussboys/bellcaps all wanting to do things for him to get a tip.

Are you at that big radio telexcope that looks like it's been stretched across some giant meteor impact crater in the forest?
