Since I struck out in my attempt to find postcards yesterday, I decided to do something radical and ask. The guy at the reception desk found me a map and showed me where the "market" was, and where the post office was. It was about a 20 minute walk, and the weather was nice. It was mostly like a farmers market swap meet stuff, it was meant to be a permanent setup, they sold lots of fruits, vegatables, and meats, but they had a whole lot of junk, err, stuff for the touristy stuff. Some of the vendors spoke fluent english, some spoke only some, and obviously some didn't speak at all. I actually made my most expensive purchases (which I won't say what is was, since the person(s) they are meant for read this) form someone who spoke no english. I would point to something, and she would punch in the price on the calculator and show me, and say "uno" and hold up a finger, and then punch in a different number and hold up two fingers and say "dos". I'd point to something else and she would do the same thing. I bought more stuff than I had pesos to do so, but they took both the Master of the Card and Lady Visa. I will say it is hard to haggle when you don't speak the language, but I hate haggling, so I was probably very popular as everyone wanted to sell overpriced stuff to the stupid gringo.
