I spend a rather large fraction of my professional life trying to find good ways to solve problems in the form Ax=b where A is a matrix, x and b are vectors.
I'm agonizing over linear algebra, and whenever one of the astronomers asks me what I'm studying, they then get this look on their face like they want to pat me on the head and say "awww, how cute." It's depressing, it is. :)
