I was talking to my boss today, catching up on things for the first time in two weeks or so, and at one point he looks at me and says "You look different. Did you shave your beard off over christmas?" I counted to three before saying "No, I shaved it off last March." *sigh*

Ouch...

My boss keeps trying to convince me I've been darkening my hair. I really havent for once, I've left it alone to be its natural color, and I think that me not being blonde has thrown everyone off...

I've actually thought of putting darker tints in it every few days just to really freak him out...

On the other hand the "new" employee that I thought started work in September apparently started on Jun 9th. But then she isn't in my division, so I can be forgiven for not knowing her start date. Right?

It all depends... how cute/obnoxious/noticeable is she?

I try very hard not to think of co workers (at least astronomers) either as cute or non cute.
She's way less obnoxious than many astronomers I've worked with.

::nod:: Not obnoxious and in a different department = ok that you didn't notice her, on the assumption that she didn't sit in the same meetings or on the same section of the hallway.

Same department, different division. I started working with her in November. Her office is in the same hallway.

Some of us are just not very oriented to visual things. At one point, someone asked me whether my then husband had a beard. I honestly could not remember. He'd had one at some times, and not at others. But remembering whether one of the times he'd had one was that morning, as he walked out the door, was too much of a challenge for me.
