Job interview

Either tomorrow or a week from tomorrow I have an interview for a job/promotion where it is already decided who is getting the job/promotion. And it isn't me. Whee! Anyone else been in this same sucky position?

I feel like I'm in a Dilbert cartoon. "Must be named Fred and drive a red 95 pickup truck." "Think they have someone in mind?"

I could, but I think the PHB would decide I wasn't "serious" about being promoted anyway.

At that point you're balancing internal politics, letting them know you understand internal politics, self esteem, and headaches.

The problem is the PHB doesn't understand internal politics.

He is unable to fathom that having a stated policy of no promotions to "save" money means that talented staff leave for other organizations.

Did the outsider person to whom you mentioned this job ever apply?

I doubt it. Looking at the written advertisement didn't make it seem like a good skill set match.
