It is highly annoying to attempt to make french toast for myself and MLW, only to find the dozen eggs in the fridge have passed their expiration date and are no good.

Eggs definitely stay good well past their expiration date. As for how to tell whether they are still okay, I find the "break it into a cup and sniff it" method pretty effective.

There was no doubt it was a bad egg. Or at least an egg I did not want to eat.

ah, hadn't seen this comment stream. How much past the pull date are they? and some of the other eggs might still be fine.
