The new system is likely a lot more efficient than the old one, which will save you money in the long run. And I believe they're still giving tax credits toward systems that meet certain minimum efficiency standards.
Well, apparently the old furnace was 90% efficient, so that won't be easy to improve on, but the AC is likely to end up better. The person doing price quotes will stick to models that get the tax credit.
