It is more of a side story. I went in expecting In The Mountains of Madness in space, and I got it, with H.R. Giger in 3D.

Yes, except TPTB kept saying that it ~isn't~ a prequel. I don't care either way, I'm still seeing it.

I kept hearing it wasn't a literal prequel, but that it was in the same universe / "has Alien DNA". I guess that way they don't have to maintain continuity. I guess that makes it a preboot.
