Not so fast

Turns out Signal hasn't actually been awarded the contract yet. The offer had a clause about that, so when you get right down to it,
Pam doesn't have a job yet. Which means that she spent the day doing the depressing stuff about getting a job, and all the planning we did for what Christmas gifts we were going to buy has been postponed, till Pam either gets another offer, or the contract officially comes through.
Perhaps Pam and I should move to Kensington, that way we don't
have to worry about Santa or Christmas.

Ugh. I've seen a few jobs on Dice, for example, that state up front "this position is contingent on being awarded task mumblefrotz in the INS STARS contract". Did the job description or anyone in the interview NOT state that the position was contingent on a contract actually being awarded? If not, that's just...ick. Misleading at best, I think, if they don't mention that until it shows up in the offer letter.

sorry :(

Ugh, I'm sorry. A lot of people around here have been laid off, including my housemate, and it's still unclear to me how she'll be able to keep paying the rent. Tough times. I hope it all works out for you. Remember that other people do understand this sort of thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with inexpensive presents, either.
