Eating my pride *burp*

So, I hit the big four oh today. I had told my mom I wanted a bread maker for my birthday, and she sent me a check. I went out to Target yesterday and bought one, which shouldn't be that big of a deal, but it is. For several years now I have been trying to bake bread, since I love the taste of fresh bread. Shouldn't be a big problem? Yea, right. No matter how hard I try, no matter how exactly I follow the recipie, no matter how fresh the ingredients, how new the yeast, I ended up with a blob of something with the consistency of depleted uranium. It usually *tasted* ok, but it wasn't the bread I was looking for. I had it sugguested to me for years that I should get a bread machine, but I got stubborn, and insisted that I'm not a complete moron, I can at least bake bread, and DAMN IT I AM GOING TO BAKE BREAD.
I finally just said fuck it, bought the damn bread machine, and last night finished the last chapters of Bujold's new book "Paladin of Souls" while eating hot bread. And it tasted wonderful.

Date: 2003-09-30 11:40 am (UTC)When you reach the age you are
Your demise can not be far
From your birthday. (Thump) Happy Birthday.
May the candles on your cake
Burn like cities in your wake
On your birthday. (Thump) Happy Birthday.
Hear the women wail and weep.
Kill them all but save the sheep
For you birthday. (Thump) Happy Birthday.
