Marriage is like a card game

I'm under the weather. Pam and I were going to spend the Holiday at Her Mothers, with the rest of the family. Given this is the first holiday after her dad died, you can tell how edgy Pam is over this. I had raised the possibility of not going, but decided this afternoon that while I'm sick enough not to want to go, I'm healthy enough I can go. So I started to tell Pam this, got part way though the convo, and Pam says "good, cause I really need you there". So we talk a bit more, and Pam wants to make sure I'm ok with going, and I said "yea, especially after you played the 'i need you card', there is no way I'm not going". Pam says "I was worried you were going to play the 'I'm sick' card, but when you didn't, I had to tell you I needed you".

Do other couples do that, or are Pam and I just weird? (by do that, I mean talk about playing the whatever card)

I think I just set us up to get zinged.

You and Pam aren't weird. At least not for that card game. :) Relationships are full of give and take and successful relationship partners respect one another's cards. But you already know that. :)

Good luck tomorrow!

Yep. Pregancy card, wife card, husband card, better half card... I've even seen the sodomy card, but that was a special addition to my packet of Fluxx cards. ;)

Well, Mike and I do it (e.g. "I'm going to play the wife card and ask you to fix the gate.")

I think it's pretty normal :)

Yes
