Once I got my SAG (screen actors guild) card, I got a lot of calls - including this one, and actually was asked to do it again tomorrow, but couldn't. Pretty much if you're a SAG actor willing to do background work in NY (which all of us are, unless we're Nicole Kidman - who doesn't need to make 120-300 a day for sitting around reading?) you will work on a Law and Order. They go through approximately 100 background actors AN EPISODE, and shoot a new episode every single week. Between the 4 series up now they're shooting 80+ episodes a year. They do hire non-union background when they can - it's cheaper - so if you're in NY and have a flexible schedule send a picture and resume (or letter with any performance experience) to Grant Wifley casting ( you should be able to find the address online)

One of the following

1) A speaking role in a SAG film
2) One years membership in another performers union with at least one principle contract
3) 3 waivers - where you do background work on a SAG film at union pay ( note : most non union background work on union films is NOT an union pay, this is a special circumstance.)

To an extent, yes.

It used to be you could get a SAG card for three non-speaking, "named" parts - I forget the official term, but it's like if you're "Bouncer 1" outside a nightclub and you open the door for someone then you appear in credits and it counted towards SAG membership even if you didn't get a line.

SAG dues also used to be upwards of $5k/year. Are they still really high these days?

Initiation fee is 1482.

Dues are 100/yr + percentage of income.

Oh that's WAY more reasonable. Good thing.

I wanna know how you got a functional Myth - did you buy or build?

[identity profile] draakken.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
built... shuttle SFF case, haupauge pvr-500 card, and wireless kbd, FC4
used wilsonet.com/mythtv/ as a guide.

What would you charge to build one for me?

[identity profile] draakken.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there are a few variables that I'd be unconfortable doing long distance if Myth goes easily it can be a low-pain effort, but if not it can be a real pain, and I don't want to sign up for something I can't do a good job on.

If you have any insights you'd be willing to share I have someone local who's interested in making these (and, unlike myself, has actual experience building computers from scratch). You have my email? wexAThovirDOTcom
Thanks!
