That was weird

Someone just called me on my cell, and it wasn't anyone I know, but they asked for Greg. They said I had five outstanding invoices from Virginia Ground Cover and owed them over $1600. When I told them I had never heard of their company, and had never ordered from them, the woman on the other end says "Are you Greg Farris?" When I told her no she says "What is your last name?" Not having fell off the turnip truck yesterday I told her that since she called me I saw no reason to tell her my last name, told her to have a nice day, and hung up.

So peeps, was this an innocent case of wrong number, or a scam attempt I didn't fall for?

Scam attempt.

More likely for them to ask for "Mr H" and be mistaken about your first name than the other way around if it had been an honest mistake.

'course, then they would have been calling your -home- number, after claiming to have looked you up in the phone book to try to "resolve the issue."

Dunno. There is at least one business by that name, registered in Sterling VA. (different zips and phones).

That does sound weird, had to have been a mistake or , a scam .
I rec. a call yesterday about how I won a two night stay in historical williams burg, I told them no thanks and hung up, have no clue were they got my cell # from.

I'll have to make a note of that response...

I've been majorly annoyed the last few months that my cell phone # (which I am currently using for both home and business purposes, so I am motivated to answer it even if I don't recognize the number) has been incorrectly given out as the work phone number for someone with an entirely different name... and who apparently works for TSA. *grr*

So. Off and on since Jan. I've been getting calls or voice-mail related to background checks, security clearances, etc. If I am answering the phone at that moment, I am explaining politely that the number is being given out incorrectly for this person and that I'm sorry but in fact I don't know the correct phone numbe because I don't work for TSA at all. If it's a message, I've stopped calling back to explain -- it's too much hassle for me and I'm sure they will finally somehow figure out why the person hasn't called them back.

(And I thought I had finally gotten it stopped, but just a few days ago some colonel at the Pentagon left a message. *deep sigh*)
