WASHINGTON - Heads up if you're going to be out and about in the car this weekend.

Getting from here to there will be tricky in places, particularly if your travel plans include I-66.

Starting at 7:00 Friday night and lasting through 5 a.m. Monday, two of the three eastbound lanes between Nutley Street and the Beltway will be closed, as crews prepare to shift traffic to the new I-66 bridges over the Beltway.

The Virginia Department of Transportation urges motorists to consider alternate routes to avoid major delays.

Also starting this week, as part of the Dulles Rail Project, expect overnight closures of westbound I-66 at the toll road.

Stay tuned to WTOP throughout the week, and we'll help guide you through it.

I'd seen signs for up coming work, but hadn't found out what the work was...

Now I know to not go ANYWHERE near I66 @ beltway this weekend.

Heck the backup will probably be all the way back to 28 in centerville

I remember when they did that with I-95 at Springfield - it ended up not being that bad because everyone else made other arrangements.
